Hangouts isn't the ideal setting for bass lessons - the algorithm filters out a lot of low end sound (it considers it background noise). For years, we've gotten around this by having the student change the EQ settings on their basses and amps so that the algorithm doesn't drop the volume on us. It's not the greatest bass tone, but if Hangouts is all you've got to work with, it gets the job done!
